Teaching assignment will include the second semester of the Biology Majors series. This course includes topics in genetics, microbiology, botany, evolution and population genetics. Other course assignments will include Frontiers in Biology, a general education lab course for non-life science majors and Human Ecology at either the main campus and/or at off-campus centers in nearby communities. Assignment may include evening classes, weekend classes and/or precollegiate classes. (See application package for additional details.)
The candidate must meet one of the following criteria. The degree must generally be from an institution accredited by the Western Association of School and Colleges or the equivalent.
- (1) Master's in any biological science
(2) Bachelor's in any biological Science and Master's in biochemistry, biophysics or marine science
(3) Or the equivalent
Candidates claiming equivalency must demonstrate a combination of education and other accomplishments that are equivalent to the Master's. (See application package for equivalency details.)
Experience in and/or commitment to working with students from
diverse cultural, ethnic, socioeconomic, academic and disability
backgrounds.
Teaching experience at the adult, secondary, and/or post secondary
level within area of assignment.
A background in biology.
Ability to make a positive contribution to the instructional program
at College of the Sequoias by developing instructional activities,
course syllabi, course outlines and other necessary materials.
Graduate and/or undergraduate course work related to the teaching of
botany and general education biology.
Familiarity with the educational needs of students pursuing science
careers.
Salary is commensurate with education and experience. Initial
placement with Master's degree ranges from $41,176 to $54,288.
District paid medial/dental/vision insurance program and employee
life insurance is provided.
Contract period is for ten (10) months during the regular academic
year beginning August 2000 through May 2001.
