What Can You Do On MyMathLab?

• View Video Lectures For each section in the book, you can find a lecture that you can watch online. Once you have logged into your course, click on the “Chapter Contents” button. After selecting the chapter and section that you want, click on the appropriate link to watch the video.

• Try Online Exercises For each section there is a set of free response exercises that allow you to practice with the material. These exercises can be accessed by clicking on the “Do Homework” button. While working on these exercises, there are many options available for help. Clicking on “Help Me Solve This” will walk you through the problem step by step. Clicking on “View an Example” will show you a similar problem, worked out completely. Some exercises have an animation that you can access, which serves as a mini-lecture on this topic. Click on “Textbook Pages” to view the related pages from your textbook. ”Ask My Instructor” sends an email to an instructor who can help you, via email, with your problem.

• Take Multiple Choice Practice Tests For each section in the text, there is a multiple choice “test” that serves as a review. To access these “tests” click on the “Take A Test” button. The problems are generated randomly, and you can attempt each “test” as many times as you like. In this area you will also find sample practice tests for each chapter.

• Use The MyMathLab Tutor Center Through MyMathLab, you can access free help from a qualified Math Instructor. This help is available by phone, email, or online whiteboard chat. These instructors can assist you with any odd problem in your textbook. To access this Tutor Center, click on the “Chapter Contents” button and then on the Tutor Center link at the top of the page.

How do I register for MyMathLab?

To register for MyMathLab you will need to have a valid e-mail address, a student access card (included with your textbook), and a course code (see below). If you do not have an email address, visit our school library’s computer center.

1. Go to www.coursecompass.com

2. Underneath “Students” click on the button labeled “Register”. You will be taken to a page labeled “Before You Start…”. Click on the button labeled “Next”.

3. If you have not used MyMathLab before, make sure that the choice “No, I Am A New User” is selected. Enter your Access Code in the boxes provided. Your Access Code is located inside the MyMathLab materials that were packaged with your textbook. You will be asked to enter the COS’s zip code, which is 93277, as well as our country (United States). Once all of the information is entered, click on “Next”.

4. On the next page, enter the course id. If you are in Math 200 or Math 205, the course id is cos92894. If you are in Math 230, the course id is cos14140. Click “Next”.

5. The next page is labeled Account Information. On this page you will be choosing a login name and password that will allow you to log into MyMathLab in the future. After this initial registration, your login name and password are all that you will need to access the MyMathLab site. Enter your first name, last name and email address in the spaces provided. Select “College of the Sequoias” from the drop-down box labeled “School Name”. Enter a login name. (The company suggests using your email address, but it is up to you.) Your login name must be at least 4 letters and/or numbers long, and cannot contain spaces. It cannot be the same as anyone else’s login name, so be sure to choose a unique name that you can remember. Create a password in the next box, and retype it in the following box. Finally, select a security question that you know the answer to, and type that answer in the following box. Click “Next”. You may be asked to choose a new login name at this point if your name has already been chosen by someone else.

It is a good idea to write down your login name/password for future reference. If you need any help, email George Woodbury at georgew@cos.edu.
